Default 1990 Mazda 626: crack in exhaust manifold, EGR position sensor

My 1990 Mazda 626 GT (turbo) failed the CA smog check. Check engine
light is on. Shop told me EGR position sensor is shot. Anybody know
the part number they're referring to? Is it the same as the EGR valve
or is it something else? I understand it determines whether or not
the engine is going to reuptake the exhaust gases. My biggest concern
is that replacing it will not solve the problem if the crack in the
manifold is affecting the reading of the EGR position sensor. Does
this sound plausible?

Thank Much,
Jonathan
