One has to wonder if the French were originally from this planet.

They definitely had a different concept of what was important in a car ,
certainly until the mid-1970s; witness the huge panel gaps, and soft,
roly-poly ride of a typical French car of the era. After that, with the
need to appeal to markets other than their home one, the cars have
become much blander and lost their Frenchness. A Peugeot 307 could come
from pretty much anywhere, IMO.
