FFB progress
Well, the discovery of calibration problem sped things up. Now I am
having consistant results. I found out that Centering Spring should be as a result of multiplication of Overall and Spring/Dapmer (if those two are equal). So, for example, these settings are balanced: 125/80/80/100, 80/125/125/100, 125/100/100/125, 100/125/125/125. Centering Spring is the key of FFB, if you have this right, the rest is easy. So, it looks like I am almost done. Only have to decide which one is "the right", 105/100/100/105, or 105/105/105/110. The first one feels just right, only it is a bit skiddy (maybe because of latency). The second one is like safer to drive. I'll see, have to test it on different cars, and put it through some tricky situations, and to see which one is faster, didn't have time to do that today. Ah, life is beautiful, : ). |

Ok, the story. It all revolves around Centering Spring (CS). It should be at 100%. If it is less than that, it is too "free", if it is more than that, it is too tight. You can have it at 1% less (99%) to "free" setting a bit, or at 1% more (101%) to have more "bite", but I wouldn't move for more than 1%. 100% should be "the neutral" position. Damper (D) and Spring (S) should be the same. Multiplying Overall (O) and D/S should give you the value of CS. This means that one can choose settings from 150/67/67/100 all the way to 67/150/150/100. Overall 150% is very strong, but it has no slack. Diminishing Overall and adding S and D will produce slack (probably D is responsible for this). Wheel is most sensitive at setting O=150 (even too much sensitive), and much less sensitive at O=67. If you start with O=150 slack starts somewhere at 135, and Damper is felt at 125 and belov, giving more and more slack and damping. You can be fast with settings around 105% (with slack), and here it is where the strength is OK. But maybe it is better to use 135% or something (the sweet spot, regarding sensitivity), and diminish strength in sim. I was very fast with 136% or something. |

You simply put Overall where you want it, Spring and Damper where you want it (those two must be equal), and then calculate Centering Spring by mutliplying Overall x Spring/Damper. Since prefered position of Spring and Damper probably is 100%, so, you only have to move Overall, and put Centering Spring at the same value as Overall. |

Hm, suddenly everything works like advertised, at least with Skippy at Watkins Glen. No need for witchcraft. Put Overall where you like, put Spring and Damper at 100%, and Centering Spring at 50% (probably). I only have to see if this works on other cars too. |
