Oil Filter adapter leak
2002 Moutaineer 4.6L AWD. I've got a leak that is coming from the fitting
where the oil filter screws on. It is definitely not the filter itself or the filter gasket. Did a little internet research. Seems the oil filter adapter that bolts to the block has a gasket that tends to leak. I'm pretty sure that is the problem as the leak is dripping off the lowest bolt. I can't find a procedure for removing the adapter in my Chilton manual. I hear there are four bolts but I can only see one from underneath. Apparently I also will have to remove the lower radiator hose (after draining the radiator) because it uses the same adapter. Anyone have a specific procedure for this year, engine and drive train. I'm worried that I might have to remove the front axle, and if that is true, I'll probably just let it leak for now. Thanks in advance for any help. |
