identifying a police package Cherokee?

Am considering purchase of a '99 Cherokee 4-door, 4WD. Vehicle is in
another state (owned by family member.) She believes that it is a
police package vehicle and I would like to verify. Problem is, I'm
down here, she's up there, she wouldn't know the difference between a
Dana 35 and a Dana 44, but I'm looking online and am having a hard
time finding anything that would tell me 100% certain (looks like they
didn't get their own VIN codes.) She did describe to me what sound
like skid plates.

There was no "Police Package" for them like there was for the Fords/Chevies.
The departments could option them as they wanted.

Basically the only real identifier is usually they have an idle control
button next to the fog lamp switch.
Most have the towing option so they get the trans cooler and larger
radiator and heavier springs.
If they installed a rear cage you might be able to find evidence of that
or radio gear, there isn't a lot of room in them so they stuck the radio
gear either in a small console or under the seat(s) some used a rack
bolted in the rear as well.

I saw that, but that still doesn't really tell me whether this vehicle
is a PP or not... I know it has a floor shift and I think it has carpet
but if I'm reading that right it's still possible that it is a PP
vehicle... the owner wouldn't know how to identify a trans cooler, HD
alternator, any of that stuff.

I do have the VIN and requested a build sheet but would like to make a
quick decision so as not to be a PITA. Honestly, I'll probably buy it
anyway as it has low miles, looks good, and just passed a safety
inspection (today)

When I was in the back seat more often, they used to remove
the inside back door and window handles.

Haven't had the opportunity to check out newer designs!

Wow, that was quick. I just got back my request for build sheet info
from Chrysler... long story short, it does have all sorts of HD options,
so I think I know what I'm going to do.

Follow up question: What's "ARUP SE Decor Group?"

Only real disappointments are lack of D44 rear end, which it seems that
some police vehicles came with, and lack of tow package, but it does
have HD alt, cooling, suspension, and trans cooler so it would seem that
it's just a matter of adding a hitch and wiring.

Our Cherokees had a dome light defeat switch, but I don't know if all
Cherokees had that. Our radios were mounted under dash or on a drive
train mount, but that was just the control head. The power supply and
transmitter were mounted behind the rear seat on the sides of the cargo
compartment. Also look for signs of roof mounted antennas. Also look for
evidence of light bar and spot light mounts.

See previous post... it apparently was built for a government contract
and has lots of HD stuff but doesn't seem to be full police spec. Still
an interesting vehicle as it was really the HD options that are the
appeal, I could care less about police "provenance."

They reinstall those before selling the vehicle on. And they bolt the rear
seat back down again.
