"God will take good care of you.....
....Just do as I say, don't do as I do..."
--Phil Collins Just thought I'd share a couple of little items of police hypocrisy with the newsgroup today: From the News-Daily of Clayton County, GA, (http://tinyurl.com/4gzvo), apparently there are two sets of laws in Clayton County: one that you and I have to obey and another for current Sheriff and former Democratic State Representative Victor Hill and his chauffeur. The short of it: Hill's car was stopped for doing 67MPH in a 45MPH zone (that's 22MPH over); said the Sherriff: "It's not like I was looking at the speedometer;" and for having improper license tags. Former State Representative Hill's Jaguar still bore the "state representative," tag from his days in the legislature. Said the current Sheriff and former State Representative: "I bought the tag for the car but the car had been sitting for a while and I didn't have a chance to put the tag on it." <sarcasm> Gee, I wonder if you or I could use that excuse and get away with it? </sarcasm> Both the Sheriff's driver (for speeding) and the Sheriff (for the tags) received verbal warnings and not citations. Must be nice to be politically connected in Clayton County, GA... Of course, there may be good reason for the cop to let the illustrious Sheriff get away with his mis-deeds: fear for his job. Sheriff Hill is the same one who improerly fired 27 of his deputies and then was forced by the courts to rehire them (see: http://tinyurl.com/4kak7). Now, from across the pond, so to speak, The Sun of the United Kingdom reports that the chauffered BMW of Chief Constable David Coleman was nabbed by a speed camera doing 97MPH on the M1 Morotway (no indication of the SL on this road was made) (http://tinyurl.com/6guva). Said the Chief Constable's driver Kenneth Campbell: "I would like to apologise for my actions." Translation: "Sorry that I got caught." The happy ending here, Mr. Campbell still had to pay a £300 fine and was assesed 4 penalty points. <sarcasm> Hmmmmmm, maybe those speed cameras are not so bad afterall...... </sarcasm> Have a nice day... -- Friends don't let friends shop at wal-mart or circuit city. |
