Pennsylvania troopers find severed torso in hit-and-run driver's Saab
A Pennsylvania man was busted in a gruesome hit-and-run crash
after troopers found the severed half of a woman’s body inside his mangled car, authorities said. Jose Antonio Santiago, dressed in blood-splattered clothes, flagged down troopers hours later and bizarrely claimed he never hit anyone and wasn’t “a bad person” authorities said. The 33-year-old was leaving an Allentown bar about 9 p.m. on Sunday when he allegedly mowed down two adult sisters, one from Brooklyn, who were walking along the roadway. The collision cut Anna Lewis, 62, of Allentown in half and badly injured her sibling, 51-year-old Rosalie Carlo. The driver sped off, leaving behind a broken window, rear-view mirror and the front grill of his car. State police canvassed the area for nearly four hours before Santiago stopped them. He reportedly told troopers he’d learned about a hit-and-run crash from WMFZ-TV, but insisted it couldn’t have been him. “I didn’t hit anyone,” Santiago babbled, according to an affidavit. “I would’ve stopped. I’m not a bad person.” He reportedly admitted knocking back a few drinks at Stooges Bar before driving. “I was just bringing my friend home, and it all happened so fast,” he allegedly told troopers. “I didn’t hit anyone. If I did, I would’ve stopped.” He pointed troopers to his badly damaged Saab where they made the ghastly discovery. A trooper reported seeing a woman’s gloved hand and the top of her head on floor of the passenger side. The windshield was smashed and front grill missing. The county coroner later removed what was left of the body and confirmed it belonged to Lewis. Carlo was rushed to St. Luke’s University Hospital with a broken wrist and severe internal injuries, the Express-Times reported. The surviving sibling blasted Santiago for her sister’s death. “I hope he rots in hell,” Carlo told the Express-Times from her hospital bed. “It’s not right. My sister was a good woman.” Troopers noted Santiago’s pants were stained red with what appeared to be “body matter,” and he reeked of booze. He refused to discuss details of the crash once he was taken into custody, police said. They booked him on multiple charges related to causing a deadly crash. He was held on $275,000 bail. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...ylvania-crash- suspect-severed-body-car-charges-article-1.2152892 |
