Default Heat/ac fan speed

I have a 1999 Explorer Limited with automatic hvac. The fan sometimes
works but sometimes I need to put fan speed on max to get the fan to
run. I live in Florida so I don't use heat often but i believe it had
the same problem with heat. On occasion it works fine: Start engine, fan
comes on hi then reduces speed as cabin cools (heats). Other times the
only way to get air movement is rolling the fan control to hi/max.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Dave

You probably have bad FAN SPEED CONTROLLER MODULE. Located in the engine
compartment by the fan motor. Cost about about $100. Very common failure
item. Probably worth having a Ford Tech look at it to make sure.
Thought you never needed heat in FL just AC.

Thanks for the help. My local dealers wanted $73. for the module but
with some e-shopping I got it for $44. plus shipping. Just over $50 and
all is well.

The internet is wonderful!
