Racing sims and NVidia 3D vision? Any good?
Instead of cashing out and buying a unit, does anyone here have any
experience with the NVidia IR transmitted 3D vision goggles? Is it hard on the GPU? CPU? Flicker? Useful in racing sims? Is it good on LCDs? Any flicker? FPS drop? I would expect the image to flicker, since the shutters actually shuts the images on and off, and this does not take place with normal 2D display... Or is this just a worthless gimmick without any good use? I know that our stereo vision is limited to relatively short distances (less than 10m?) and in racing sims we watch things hundred of meters away, beyond that stereo vision range... Any experiences, anyone? --A-- |

Ah. Makes sense. I would expect Vsync to be a requirement for stereo 3d
vision... But I can't believe game houses still let vsync "lock" the physics model because there really is no need to. The images you see on the screen should be just a snapshot of the virtual world at one point of time, and not "hey, let's lock the entire game up and wait for the vsync"... Well, let's see if someone actually tried the stuff... -A- On 21.10.2012 23:54, * Mario Petrinovic wrote: > Asgeir Nesoen: > Instead of cashing out and buying a unit, does anyone here have any > experience with the NVidia IR transmitted 3D vision goggles? > > Is it hard on the GPU? Well, let's see if someone actually tried the stuff... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is visual thing, not physics thing. You first try a game with vsync "on", then you will know what vsync does to a sim. Vsync is a serious thing, and seriously affects FFB. Any lag, the smallest lag, affects FFB. Even using a Logitech profiler introduces lag to FFB, and seriously affects controlability of a car, and not to say vsync. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mario Petrinovic: > Asgeir Nesoen: > Instead of cashing out and buying a unit, does anyone here have any > experience with the NVidia IR transmitted 3D vision goggles? > > Is it hard on the GPU?
