speed kills believers exceed the speed limit
First the story: http://www.shropshirestar.com/show_a....php?aID=29518 Speed camera van allegation The driver of a mobile speed camera van was allegedly clocked by police, breaking the limit on a Shropshire road, it emerged today. Now the van operator, who had been on mobile patrol in Trefonen, near Oswestry, could face court action. The driver was pulled over by an officer who allegedly saw the van, operated by West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership, breaking the limit on a national speed limit road. For cars this is 60mph, but because of the camera van's weight it is limited to 50mph. Kate Tonge, for West Mercia Police, today refused to comment on allegations the van had been travelling at 65mph. She said: "There was an incident that happened on December 21 at Trefonen, near Oswestry . . . A full investigation into the allegation has been conducted and a file has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service. No-one has been suspended from duty in connection with this allegation." Trevor McAvoy, of West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership, said:"I don't believe the van operator had carried out any enforcement that morning." If convicted the driver could face a fine, points on his licence or even a motoring ban. Now about the org that owns the van: http://www.westmercia.police.uk/1024.../traffic12.htm West Mercia and the Safety Camera Partnership West Mercia Constabulary is involved with 12 other partners in the Department of Transport.s .Netting Off. or cost recovery scheme whereby fines revenue from certain safety camera activity is returned to the Safety Camera Partnership, a body made up from a number of organisations but which is not police-led nor police-run. This body has an independent management board and operates the DfT.s criteria for the placement and processing of safety camera sites. For more information on this scheme in the West Mercia area, visit the Safety Camera Partnerships web site at ..www.speedaware.org.uk.. http://www.speedaware.org.uk/default.asp?PAGE=AIMS The partnership.s only goal is to reduce casualties and the partner agencies are committed to achieving this in the first instance through targeted and effective enforcement measures utilising camera systems. The purpose of installing these additional cameras is to dissuade drivers from exceeding speed limits and to reduce the number of people killed or injured at a particular site, not to catch drivers speeding. --------- |
